Music Library

Welcome to the PEA Music Library! Located in Room 109 of the Forrestal Bowld Music Center, Phillips Exeter Academy's Music Library gives students, faculty and staff the opportunity to explore the literature of music in a convenient and comfortable setting. It mainly serves as a resource through which students may enrich their classroom, ensemble and private lesson experiences. The Music Library's collection holds nearly 7000 items and consists of method books, scores and sheet music representing a variety of musical instruments and traditions. Particularly well represented are works for solo piano, voice, and chamber music ensembles, along with larger works from the choral and orchestral repertoire. Users may locate items in the Music Library through the Academy Library’s catalog and on a research guide for music. Facilities and Services

Open during daytime hours when classes are in session, the Music Library provides the following facilities and services:

• Open stacks with access to music scores and reference materials
• Lounge area with soft seating
• Computer lab/classroom for individual or group study 
• Multifunction printer/copy machine
• Service desk providing reference and circulation assistance
• Research assistance by appointment
• Interlibrary loan and purchase requests

STEP 1:  Begin with Reference Sources (print and online) for background information

STEP 2:  Find Books (overviews and monographs)

STEP 3:  Look for articles in Magazines & Journals 

STEP 4:  Search for Recordings. These can be found through Library catalog searches (try an author search) or in a streaming database such as Naxos Music Library.

STEP 5:  If necessary, locate Sheet Music
