Library Policies

Who Can Borrow

  • Individuals with a valid Phillips Exeter Academy ID card are eligible for borrowing privileges. This includes current students, employees, and members of an employee's household.
  • Library access and borrowing privileges for retirees (emeriti/ae faculty and staff) are granted on a case-by-case basis. Retirees who wish to obtain building access and borrowing privileges at the Library for physical items from the regular circulation collections must contact Human Resources.

Circulating Items & Loan Periods

Library Material Loan Period
Books, music cds, and recorded books 4 weeks
Hot Titles (fiction & non fiction) 2 weeks
Dvds, magazines/journals 1 week
Reference books overnight
Course Reserves

- 2 hours during the day, one time renewal for additional 2 hours; After one renewal the book must be returned so other students can use it.

- Most reserve books are eligible for overnight checkout. Reserve books can be borrowed overnight within 2 hours of closing and are then book back within two hours of opening the following day.

Media equipment - A variety of media equipment is available for loan including iPad project cables, cd/dvd players, video camera and graphing calculators. Loan periods vary for these items. Please visit the Service desk or contact us for inquiries about specific equipment needs.

Lost/damaged Materials & Billing

  • Replacement costs are charged for lost and damaged library material.
  • Students will be billed for long overdue items, lost, and/or damaged material at the end of each term.  Payment is managed by the school's Finance Office.
