Girls Are New England Swim Champs; More Post-Season Results

BV Basketball in win vs. Andover in their quarterfinal game.

March 6, 2012

The girls swim team are New England champions – AGAIN –  for the third year in a row!

Exeter was fortunate to have multiple teams compete in post-season play as February came to a close. All the results are in just as students have left for their well-deserved winter break.

Girls Swimming & Diving
After a loss to Andover on February 25 in their head-to-head swim meet during the Exeter/Andover games, the PEA girls re-grouped for the championship meet at Exeter and came out on top of Andover, as well as ahead of Deerfield and Suffield. The final 4 finished with the following point totals: Exeter (368), Deerfield (357), Suffield (327) and Andover (317). The final order would likely have been different if Andover hadn't been disqualified in the final event of the day – the 400-yard freestyle relay – which cost them approximately 30 points.

Boys Swimming & Diving
The boys swim team also had a strong outing at the tournament finishing third. The point totals for the top 4 finishers were Andover (417), Deerfield (360), Exeter (323.5), and Suffield (274.5). PEA had some outstanding races, with 3 New England record-setting races: Joe Shepley in the 100 yard butterfly; Shepley, Brooks Reavill, Avery Reavill, Jackson Rafter in the 400-yard freestyle relay; and Joe Shepley, Brooks Reavill, Avery Reavill, Chris Mukasa in the 200-yard freestyle relay.

Boys Hockey
After closing out their regular season with an impressive 21-2-5 record, the boys hockey team started their post-season play in the quarterfinals against Gunnery, who had stung Exeter with an early season loss of 9-6. The rematch proved to be a much tighter contest as PEA got its revenge with a 2-0 shutout. Their semifinal match went less favorably as Nobles proved too much for the Exeter boys, who scored first, but let Nobles retake the lead. Exeter fought back to within 1 goal, but was never able to tie the game, ultimately losing 5-3 to end their post-season.

Boys Basketball
Meanwhile, boys basketball took on Andover in a quarterfinal match at home. Like the swim teams, this was a rematch after Exeter's win the previous week during the Exeter/Andover games. But once again, the PEA boys were able to handle Andover ultimately winning by a score of 45-36. In their semifinal game versus a strong Salisbury squad and eventual New England champion, the boys were unable to come home with a win, dropping the game 58-46.

Congratulations to all the teams!
