In-library Facilities
Wireless Access
Wireless network access is now available on the Ground and First floors of the library. The plan is to eventually provide wireless access throughout the entire building.
Desktop Computers
More than 40 desktop computers, as well as 11 terminals, are available throughout the Library, with at least one device on every floor from the basement to 3M. Computers are available in the quiet study carrels in the basement; in the Periodicals Room; behind the old card catalog in Rockefeller Hall; and on the Front Street side of Floor 2M. In addition, the Dr. Elbert Payson Little Computer Lab, gift of the Class of 1945 and located on floor 1M, contains 16 desktop computers. All terminals and computers offer basic desktop software and access to the internet.
Three network printers allow the Academy community to print from any of the terminals or computers in the library. A computer on the main floor of the Library has a scanner and color inkjet printer attached, and there is a photocopier nearby. In addition, the library has carrels on floor 2M where patrons can connect their laptops for wired internet access.
Other Facilities
The Lawrence Music Area on floor 1M is a gift from Timothy W. Childs ’53. It includes thousands of CDs, a collection supported by the Paul E. Gropp Fund, given by the Class of 1940 and the family of Mr. Gropp. Also stored in this area is the Classic Film collection, as well as a variety of other films in both DVD and VHS formats.
The east side of floor 1M has a TV/VCR/DVD unit for watching movies in the library.
There is a large-screen plasma television in the Mark D. Kaplanoff ’66 Periodicals room, on the ground floor, which may show a news station during library hours and may also be used for presentations and digital exhibits.
