Faculty to Perform Beethoven, Debussy and Schnittke at Recital

Exeter, NH (October 10, 2008)¾Phillips Exeter Academy music instructor and pianist Laura Teplitsky, and cellist Junko Fujiwara Simons will perform in Phillips Church, located on the corner of Tan Lane and Front Street at 7 p.m. on October 21, 2008. The event is free and open to the public.

Simons and Teplitsky will perform Beethoven Sonata No. 3 in A Major for Cello and Piano, op. 69, Debussy Sonate pour Violoncello et Piano in D Minor and Schnittke Sonata for Violoncello and Piano (1978), among others.

Born in the former Soviet Union (Ukraine and Russia), Teplitsky is a graduate of the Leningrad State Conservatory who both teaches and performs piano. She has conceived and performed a variety of piano duo and four-hand recitals; mixed programs of piano—solo, piano trio and voice-piano program; French music for saxophone and piano recital, and “Russian Connection” program. Teplitsky serves as adjunct music faculty at PEA and Phillips Andover. She also maintains her piano studio in Amesbury, MA.

Simons is an active freelance musician and educator who currently is a member of the Palimpsest Ensemble, Kalliope Piano Trio, and Another Language:  InterPlay. She has participated in composer-conductor Lawrence “Butch” Morris’ “Conduction” series, and has collaborated with him to form New England Skyscraper—a branch of his ongoing “Conduction” project. Simons holds adjunct faculty positions at Boston College, Phillips Andover and Ipswich School, giving cello lessons and coaching chamber music; and she teaches private students. Before moving to Massachusetts, she performed in Wisconsin with such organizations as the Green Bay Symphony, the Milwaukee Ballet Orchestra and the Racine Symphony, among others. Simons has a master’s from Northwestern University and a bachelor’s from Lawrence University.
