Soprano Susan Consoli Performs with Organist/Harpsichordist Michael Beattie and Trumpeter Jesse Levine at Faculty Recital

Exeter, NH (September 17, 2008)—Phillips Exeter Academy’s music department will host a faculty recital, “Music for Soprano, Trumpet and Organ,” featuring soprano Susan Consoli with organist/harpsichordist Michael Beattie and trumpeter Jesse Levine on Tuesday, September 23, at 7:00 p.m. The concert will include works by Scarlatti, Melani, Purcell and Viviani. This is the first of three faculty performances scheduled during the 2008–2009 Fall Concert Series. It will be held inside Phillips Church, located on the corner of Tan Lane and Front Street. The concert is free and open to the public.

Consoli’s active career in oratorio, opera and recital have led her throughout the United States and abroad. She has worked under such notable conductors as: Bruno Weil, Grant Llewellyn, Laurence Cummings and Ryan Turner, among others, as well as director/choreographer Chen Shi-Zheng and choreographer Tero Saarinen. Consoli has performed as a soloist with Emmanuel Music’s famed Bach Cantata Series since 2005 and with the Carmel Bach Festival since 2004. 

Featured upcoming solo engagements include: the role of Vera Mater in Charpentier’s Judicium Salomonis with Ensemble Abendmusik, Bach Magnificat and Cantata 151 Süßer Trost; mein Jesus kömmt with the Handel and Haydn Society; Haydn’s Lord Nelson Mass; and Handel’s Dettigen Te Deum with the Concord Chorale.  


 



Michael BeattieBeattie has established himself as a musician of exceptional versatility through his work as keyboard player, vocal coach and conductor. As Associate Conductor of Emmanuel Music, he has conducted numerous times in the weekly Bach Cantata Series at Emmanuel Church in Boston, and made his Emmanuel Music opera debut conducting Ariodante. A highly regarded continuo player, Beattie has performed in the United States and Europe as harpsichordist and organist with Emmanuel Music; Cantata Singers; Boston Baroque; Boston Cecilia; Handel and Haydn Society; and Boston Lyric Opera, among others. In demand as a vocal coach specializing in music of the Baroque and Classical periods, he is currently on the music staff of Glimmerglass Opera, Chicago Opera Theater, and the Carmel Bach Festival. Beattie is a founding member and harpsichordist of Favella Lyrica and the Baroque chamber ensemble Très. He is a graduate of the Eastman School of Music and Boston University, and has been on the faculties of the Tanglewood Music Center and the Walnut Hill School. Currently, Beattie is a teaching associate at Boston University and a guest vocal coach at the Boston Conservatory.

Jesse LevineLevine has performed on both period and modern instruments throughout the United States and internationally. He has played principal trumpet with the New Hampshire Symphony, and has performed with Boston Lyric Opera; Boston Ballet; Boston Symphony; Boston Pops; Portland Symphony; and Springfield Symphony, among others. On Baroque Trumpet, Levine has performed with the Handel and Haydn Society; Boston Baroque; Boston Cecilia; Bach Ensemble; American Repertory Theater; and the San Francisco Bach Choir, among others.
